I am an experienced and highly qualified massage therapist, trained in holistic Swedish massage at the renowned Claire Maxwell-Hudson School in London. Further training in advanced medical massage courses have provided me with many new and cutting edge techniques for body work which have superb results.

All treatments use a combination of techniques to enable each client to experience a treatment tailored to their individual needs, whether it is for pain relief, detox, or deep relaxation. We now live in a fast world which doesn't suit our bodies - massage is greatly needed to help us to adjust to our surroundings.

HOLISTIC SWEDISH MASSAGE

All body parts are connected and related to each other. Although I have an indepth knowledge of anatomy and physiology, the treatment takes into account the body as a whole. Treatments are unique to a clients needs, some clients may need an invigorating deep tissue massage, others a slow and calming relaxation. Some clients may have areas of pain or old injuries which need focusing on for the session, or some may want an all round full body treatment.

Swedish massage was developed in the nineteenth century by the Swede Pir Henrik Ling. It is a system of treatment using passive and active movements, manipulating the body's soft tissue to affect the muscles, fascia, tendons and ligaments. This in turn aids the body's circulation and lymph flow, digestion, waste removal and neural communication.

MEDICAL MASSAGE

This is remedial massage to relieve acute or long term chronic pain conditions. This type of massage is a very effective treatment for conditions such as back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines, shoulder pain, leg pain and repetitive motion injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow.

After an initial consultation, the areas where pain are felt are established, which muscles are causing the pain are identified, then these areas are treated by stripping the muscles and deactivating any trigger points.

Trigger points are 'knots' or areas which are tender to the touch. They can sometimes refer pain to another part of the body. The pain can normally be resolved within 1 to 6 visits for treatment.

Deep tissue massage is also used, along with stretching and hydrotherapy where appropriate. The right combination of techniques will aim to lengthen the affected muscles and thus increase the range of movement and flexibility.

Advice for homecare and self treatment is always offered, including stretches for the affected muscles, exercises for muscle strengthening, self-treating massage techniques and postural advice. This will all greatly help the recovery time, teach you to ease any pain you have yourself and increase your flexibility.

MASSAGE FOR PREGNANCY

Massage is highly beneficial for both pre and post natal care. It reduces stress, enables relaxation, reduces oedema, lowers blood pressure, increases flexibility, helps insomnia and reduces the strains and pains of carrying this extra weight on the body. Massage helps your body to adapt to the physical stresses of pregnancy using suitable techniques and positions for each stage.
